This year the Czech Republic hosted the Global Entrepreneurship Week event for the third time and attracted record numbers of 5300 attendees. The event is a part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week initiative, which has been supported by Barack Obama, Richard Branson or Snoop Dogg. The Czech event is organized by European Leadership and & Academic Institute (ELAI) and this year 65 events to promote and develop business took place between November 16 and 22. “I am very happy that we had a successful third year of Entrepreneurship Week in the Czech Republic with participation of so many organizations and individuals and I would like to thank them all for their trust and support,” says the ELAI executive director Lukáš Sedláček.

The peak of the week was the Entrepreneurship Week Summit: From Survivors to Winners in Prague, attracting some 1700 participants to come on 19th November. Those who came could choose from 20 workshops with successful entrepreneurs from the Czech Republic and abroad, gain their advice on how to start your own business. ELAI also hosted a panel discussion on the need of state support for development and promotion of startups, with panelists coming from Germany and Israel. The final conference hosted such speakers as Juraj Atlas from Liftago, Lubo Smid from STRV, Katarina Klinkova from Staffino and Lucie Brešová from Skypicker. “The Entrepreneurship Week is a unique event for emerging entrepreneurs – one of its kind in the Czech Republic,” Juraj Atlas stated. “When we started, it was more or less DIY operation, but being able to get advice from those with experience truly is priceless,” Lucie Brešová added.

The closing evening of the Summit saw the awarding ceremony for the winners of the most promising Czech stratups TOP10 Pitch Day Start it Up! 2015. The international jury voted for TeskaLabs on the first place, Reservio got the silver medal and Virtubio was the third chosen one. “We are happy that Virtubio, chosen as Wild Card for Start it Up! Pitch Day 2015 made it to the TOP 3,” stated Martina Jakl, President of the Board of Directors of Start it Up! foundation.

Although the third successful Entrepreneurship Week is over, you can look forward to the spring. “Since promotion and development of startup businesses is intimately linked to innovation, ELAI decided to organize Innovation Week in the Spring of 2016. I am honored to announce that the first patrons of this event are Taťána le Moigne, CEO of Google Czech Republic and Martin Lukeš, the Vice Dean for Science, Research and Post-Gradual Studies of the Faculty of Business Economy at VŠE,“ Lukáš Sedláček specifies. “Every country in the developed world is supporting innovation, because that is how new products and services come to being. And so events that talk about innovation, promote and award them are very important,” adds Martin Lukeš.
