Unemployment benefits cost CZK 11.5bn in 2013

The sum sent by the state to people receiving unemployment benefits increased by CZK 1.8bn in 2013. At the end of the year, there were 597,000 unemployed, which is the highest number of citizens registered in the Labour Office database in the country’s new history. Although only one fifth of them received benefits, the Ministry of Labour had the amount of CZK 9.8bn reserved for this purpose only. The average monthly amount of the benefit was CZK 7,500.
