Anglo-American University in Prague changed its legal form and management

One of the most prestigious Czech universities, Anglo-American University (AAU), previously functioned as a charitable company, but at the end of the year changed of its legal form to being an institute. The organizational transformation is followed by personnel changes in the organization's leadership.

Anglo-americká vysoká škola, z.ú. (AAVŠ) was founded in 1990 and is the oldest private university operating in the Czech Republic. AAU, best known abroad as Anglo-American University (AAU), has earned a reputation for high-quality teaching in English, prestigious accreditations and an exclusive setting in the heart of Prague.

On Dec. 12, 2016, the inaugural meeting of the board was held after the change of the legal form to AAU Institute. AAU management was taken up by former chairman of the board took up AAU Petr Pajas,  In his work, he wants to focus on strengthening the academic staff and the school's commitment to develop the areas of economics, humanities, media studies, international relations and law. He also aims to expand cooperation with the University of London and several universities in the US. “I would like to improve the curriculum as soon as possible by incorporating additional degree programs needed to prepare graduates for success in business and in management positions in multinational companies and state administrative bodies,” Pajas said.

Economist Jiří Schwarz was elected as the chairman of the board of directors. The new deputy chairman is Andrej Barčák, a graduate AAU and marketing director of Opel C&S.

The board meeting of AAVŠ z.ú. was also attended by founders Lenka Deverová, Martin Kúšik and Michaela Proskočilová.

AAU teaches entirely in English based on American and British traditions. Study programs are accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education. The exception is law, which carried out in collaboration with the University of London. In 2016, the AAU was the first and so far only European academic institutions to receive accreditation from the WSCUC, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges [WASC] Senior College and University Commission. This accreditation is also used by prominent universities on the West Coast of the United States such as Stanford University, most state universities in California and privately run Chapman University, which guarantees the MBA program at AAU.
