Unfortunately, many of us tend to surrender ourselves to the words of others, especially if they are printed, or on the Internet, without questioning the source, the data, the possible motivation of the author and their own biases.  Intellectual curiosity is a wonderful thing and, when coupled with critical thinking skills, it becomes a powerful ally in a world where there are few honest brokers of information.
