Prague College announces an impressive roster of speakers for its upcoming Master Speaker Series of events

Prague College, one of the Czech Republic's leading private universities, is delighted to announce an exceptional line-up of speakers for its highly regarded ‘Master Speaker series’ which starts up again this coming autumn.

Soon after the start of the new term, which begins on 19 September the College will host its first Master Speaker event of the season which takes place on Friday, 6 October. Entitled ‘21st Century Life Skills’, the talk will be given by two leading practitioners in mindfulness and social and emotional learning, Amy Burke and Kevin Hawkins. Amy Burke has been living in Prague since 2013, and her work is centred on helping young adults, and those who teach them, to create lives of meaning and purpose. Kevin Hawkins is an adviser to the ‘Mindfulness in Schools Project’ and a consultant with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization.

Next up will be an introduction to the role and work of a foreign correspondent by Rob Cameron, the BBC correspondent in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, on Wednesday, 19th October. Rob has been living in Prague since 1993, beginning his radio career in 1999, when he joined Radio Prague, the international service of Czech Radio, to which he remains a regular contributor. He began reporting for the BBC in 2001, and became the BBC’s Czech and Slovak correspondent in 2004. He has also reported for the BBC from Albania, Poland, Russia and the United States.

Just two weeks later, on Thursday, 3rd November, the College will host Teodor Marjanovic of Respekt, who will discuss the impact of a potential Clinton or Trump presidency on the situation in the Middle East. Teodor was born in Belgrade and spent his childhood in Slovenia. He went on to study philosophy at the University of Vienna and then from 1996 to 1998 he served as editor of the daily MF DNES in the Czech Republic, with a focus on Germany. He has also worked for the BBC in London and the weekly Respekt. From January 2007 until 2012 he was head of foreign news for MF DNES.

Finally, on Wednesday, 16 November, Petr Mikovec, the Managing Director of INVEN Capital, an independent venture capital fund established by CEZ, will be attending the college to give a talk on Investing in Clean Energy. Petr has been responsible for a number of recent investments into Green Energy projects, including tado°, the European market leader in intelligent home climate control, and German battery company Sonnenbatterie.

Talking about the latest round of speakers for the Master Speaker Series, Douglas Hajek, the Founder and Director of Prague College said: “Our Master Speaker events are always very popular with both the general public and the college’s own students, and it is one of the things that we do that differentiate us from other schools and universities. We believe that it is really important to give our students the opportunity to listen to and meet with successful people from a number of different walks of life, and it makes me very proud to think that we can attract such high profile and interesting people to come in and talk to us on such a regular basis.’

All of the above Master Speaker events are free of charge and open to the public, and all will start from 6.00 pm onwards in Prague College’s main conference room in Blanicka, Prague 2.
