Things to Think About
By Pepper de Callier

“The purpose of life is not to be happy.  It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

I had to think about this for a moment before its meaning came to me.  For me, Emerson’s words are, in fact, an eloquent recipe for happiness.  To seek happiness for itself is a fool’s errand and one that will end in tears.  But, to look at happiness as the byproduct of living life in an honorable, compassionate manner, with the goal of making a meaningful contribution, one really accomplishes three things: being a worthy example, having a positive impact on others in a way that makes a difference in their lives, and finally, a life well lived.

Good luck on your journey!
