World’s Best News for the second time in the Czech Republic

On 9th of September Czech organizations will join the successful Danish information campaign World´s Best News for the second time. The campaign aims to increase public awareness of the progress on implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Volunteers will be handing out special newspapers about positive news from all around the world on this day in Prague and other cities.

“Last year, the world adopted an ambitious plan how to eradicate extreme poverty until 2030 while protecting our planet. Each country determines its own way of sustainable development. The role of the Czech Development Agency is to be a reliable guide for the companies in sharing our experience and supporting partnership among each other. I have no doubt that all of us will benefit from the successful fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals,” says the director of the Czech Development Agency (CZDA) Michal Kaplan. The CZDA joined the campaign this year together with the NGOs People in Need, FoRS, and Caritas Czech Republic.

The basic concept of the campaign, which has successfully taken place for example in Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway or Finland, is based on spreading of positive news and reports on global development. Experienced journalists demonstrate progress and solutions with positive results, which are in the mainstream media often neglected. Nevertheless they do not avoid current issues which the world is facing these days. In this year’s issue readers can find out about the disposal of the population explosion time bomb, education as the key to end the world poverty or the designer Jakob Trollbäck who transformed the Development goals into a brand that everybody can identify with.

"In the current challenging situation it is very important to note that thanks to the active effort of people around the world in the last fifteen years we have achieved a number of successes, and that we need to keep it up," says Michal Kaplan, pointing out the reasons why the Czech Republic got involved in this successful information campaign.

The CZDA joined the campaign this year together with the support of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic (sustainable development department), the Information Centre of the United Nations in Prague and NGOs People in Need, FoRS, and Caritas Czech Republic.
