Description
Prague Information Service, the organization of the capital of Prague, was founded on 1st January 1958 as an independent cultural information establishment. Nevertheless, a number of its workplaces have much longer history. In 1958, their activities were renewed and they were amalgamated to a new organization under the new name. For example the section of information and documentation followed up with the Central Information Service conceived in 1947 pursuant to the model of the French service S´il vous plaît, the newspaper clipping service continued in the activity of the bureau Argus operating in Prague from 1929 and liquidated for political reasons in 1948, local history section has its predecessor in the pre-war Association for Enhancement of Prague Monuments.
 
Content

Our present main tasks consist in promoting the city, making both native and foreign interested persons acquainted with its monuments, with the history and culture of Prague, in collecting and providing quality and objective information to interested persons and among others in providing services for visitors of our capital city.

We provide information by email: tourinfo@pis.cz or in our tourist information centres, which are situated in the Old Town Hall, in  Rytířská Street 31, in the hall of the Main Railway Station, at the Airport Prague and in the Lesser Town Bridge Tower. Another important source of information may be found in the internet pages www.praguewelcome.com, which have been available to users of internet as early as since 1995 in six language versions.

For those who are interested in the cultural life in the metropolis, we publish a monthly periodical Summary of Cultural Events in Prague, the cultural periodical with the longest tradition in Prague. It constitutes an important documentation of cultural offer of the city and is available in salesrooms and newsstands as well as our internet pages.

In cooperation with Prague Municipal Council, we participate in publishing tourist brochures, which are destined for visitors of our city, for tour operators as well as for promotion of Prague in important tourist fairs and other presentation events all over the world.

We provide complete booking services for visitors of the city, from accommodation, boarding, entrance tickets to guide services.

Our national historical walking tours to interesting places with expert comment provided by our erudite guides are destined namely for Czech clientele.

We educate highly qualified Prague guides in specialized courses including language teaching, practical training and refresher courses. The educated guides guarantee the highest professional and language quality of guide services.  

We provide interpreter’s services, translations of common and professional texts, mediate work of hostesses being able to speak world languages.

In recent years, a number of our activities have made great progress and our services have been enlarged and improved. We wish to be taken by our clients and our environment according to our name - as a service, useful to individuals as well as business subjects, to inhabitants or visitors of Prague, as a service beneficial to the city of Prague.

Prague Information Service is an active member of the following national and international organizations and associations: PCB - Prague Convention Bureau, A.T.I.C. - Association of Tourist Information Centres, ECM - European Cities Marketing and CEE - Central European Experience.
